BBC Online BBC Online is responsible for the production and maintenance of the BBC web sites and online communities. the job The BBC had a new online Message Board service providing moderated discussion forums for BBC programmes and channels. Overwhelming traffic on the message boards meant the BBC needed to rapidly upgrade the infrastructure. At the time, the Message Board was being advertised on BBC Television so a custom built replacement was required in order scale up the service to handle an ever-increasing audience. thequality.com was commissioned to lead the development team, which consisted of BBC staff. The brief was to implement, test and deploy the new system in one month. the procedure BBC Operations supplied high level documentation and technical specification for use in Message Board development. thequality.com reviewed the materials, then proposed a project schedule utilising both thequality.com and BBC resources. thequality.com delivered a prototype application, demonstrating the main points of connectivity between the web user interface, a new Message Board server and database. the implementation Once the prototype was accepted, thequality.com coordinated the programming and graphic design teams to implement a modular solution. Each component was then tested by BBC Operations to meet the specified criteria before launch. the end result The Message Board system was deployed on schedule after comprehensive testing. As of 1/1/2000, the system is hosting over 30 different message boards. The East Enders message board alone contains several thousand messages.
