Whales in US court

"We need your immediate support as we go to trial in a case that is critical to the future of marine mammals on this planet."
John H. Adams
President
Natural Resources Defense Council
(non-war-mongering americans)

"Scientists are warning that LFA sonar may threaten the very survival of entire
populations of whales, some already teetering on the brink of extinction. At
close range, the system's shock waves are so intense they can destroy a whale's eardrums, cause its lungs to hemorrhage, and even kill. "

Spam of the day

Maybe the US does need an office of homeland security after all. Any takers?

"I am a recruiter that is looking for ex police or military police to do bace security around the US.

Please let me know if you are looking for a new career and send your resume.

I will then send all the details about this position and will try to get a list of the different locations.

Complaint form for UK advertisements

A URL I've long been waiting for, courtesy of the NTK boys.

Submit a UK Advertising Complaint

"The British Code of Advertising, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing now officially disapproves of unsolicited commercial email... So, every time a UK company (with whom you don't alreadyhave some sort of relationship) mails you without asking, you can mail the ASA and ask them what they're going to do about it. " SpamAssassin is working pretty nicely for email. Now what to do about SMS text spam?

Geeks with Guns

Somewhat interesting perspective to emerge during a presentation today at the UK Government's Special Interest in Open Source Software. "You have Richard Stallman's Free Software Foundation on the left and Eric Raymond's Open Source Initiative on the right." A bit simplistic, I thought, until the speaker pointed out that Eric, author of the influencial The Cathedral and the Bazaar, also runs Geeks With Guns. The page title says it all.

Eric writes "Geeks and guns are a natural match. Open-source software is about getting freedom; personal firearms are about keeping it." Cool. I mustn't be a geek then. I feel freer without firearms in my tribe. I have enough technical troubles in my life without worrying about machines that kill.

Bush and Blair for Nobel Peace Prize??

Norwegian Member of Parliament Harald Tom Nesvik announced that he has submitted a nomination for Tony Blair and George W. Bush for "their decisive action against terrorism, something I believe in the future will be the greatest threat to peace." Que?!? We watched Brazil again last night. Amazing how not dated it looks and sounds. Reject Nomination of Bush and Blair for Nobel Prize Petition.
