Master and Commander

Saw Master and Commander tonight. Not a great story but amazing re-enactment of 18th century ocean warfare and life at sea. A real boy's own adventure if you're into that kind of thing. Lots of manly bonding. Not a woman in sight.

Highlight of the night was meeting Peter Weir after the screening and his Q&A session with kinda drunk or otherwise dazed Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany. "Good time to be bold and try something new", he said. "Things are a little flat at home". I guess going home to Sydney is culture shock after a year staging epic ship battles off the Galapogas Islands. *sigh*

He told a nice story about finding himself alone on a set as a young 'un with Alfred Hitchcock. Mustering up the nerve to approach him finally, the legendary director (the bald one) turns his head and mutters "Oh why can't you people just leave me alone?".
