Wired, TGCrossroads, and other sites have flagged the Matrix co-director as transgender. No wonder the Wachowski deal with Warner Brothers spared them all PR duties.

From what I understand, part of the contract *they* initiated is that they would not be forced to do PR work. This is almost unheard of in the merchandising industry, but neither of them have an interest in it and would rather be doing other things (like their art). This gels with the fact that they never do photo ops and are really hard to get direct comments from, even with fans; they just don't like doing public commentary. Their private lives, they feel, should remain private.
Luckily for them, the success of their movies allowed them this bit of freedom...
