NAME: Emma Pappas (Film-maker/VJ)
AGE: 30
LOCATION: Sydney, Australia
Description
:
Emma is a film-maker and VJ who travels around the world VJ'ing and documenting festivals, tribal gatherings, clubs and raves. She studied Fine Arts for 3 years, majoring in Sculpture at Sydney College of the Arts in the mid 90's and began working with the Video medium 'quite by accident' as part of an installation she made for her final year project which involved a totem pole made entirely of used television sets.
Her girlfriend Kara makes tribal jewellery so the pair are often back-packing together in India or Thailand buying beeds and attending the various psy-trance festivals.
To make ends meet and pay for some of her video equipment, Emma often VJ's at corporate events in Darling Harbour or commercial clubs throughout NSW and Victoria. She doesn't really like 'the crowd' but loves shooting people dancing, remixing the footage LIVE and playing it back to them knowing how delighted they will be to see themselves on such a big screen. The fact is that she would much rather be travelling around the world making 'psychedelic documentaries' of tribespeople and fellow-travellers rather than feeding 'Yuppies egos' (as she puts it) in overpriced city clubs.
Emma would be easy to participate in the MOD Films community because she's in so many communities on the web already, admittedly mostly Gay & Lesbian-orientated forums, but if she could see cool, open-minded and like-minded people on the boards she would probably fell more compelled to put in her two cents' worth.
